For a truly dramatic fireplaces, overmantels can be placed above the mantel to add visual interest and height. The following fireplace overmantels complement a wide range of our mantels.
Design tips and considerations for overmantels :
Although fireplace overmantels generally extend to the ceiling, in rooms with cathedral ceilings or very high ceilings they often do not. For example, the fireplace overmantel in a room with a twenty-five foot cathedral ceiling may only extend to a height of twelve to fourteen feet. There is sometimes a natural stopping point, such as the top of a second story window.
An overmantel will reduce the effective shelf depth.
Simple designs such as the Pisa or Milano offer more flexibility than our other designs for the placement of art or photographs above the mantel.
